THE GREAT STAFF WRITE OFF!
A new activity for this year is The Great Staff Write Off. Several members of staff have written a piece to tie in with the Rotary Club’s 2018 Young Writer Competition. The theme this year is ‘A Different Perspective’. A competition will run until next Thursday 15th March for students / staff to match each piece to the correct author. Correct entries will be entered into a draw to win a £10 voucher (of the winner’s choice). Students, staff and parents are also invited to vote for their favourite piece until Thursday 15th March. Keswick School Book Award 2018
Back for 2018 was the Book Award with six new titles to read, review and vote for. Voting for the winner took place in the final weeks of the summer term and the reading raffle was also used again for those who produced reviews. Some of the prizes were donated by the Literary Gift Company. Instead of an author visit from one author this year, four of the authors agreed to do Skype sessions with students who signed up to attend. These gave a great insight into the 'behind the scenes' world of writing and the publishing industry. Cell 7 was the winner this year, just one point ahead of second placed 'Running on the Roof of the World.'
KESWICK SCHOOL BOOK AWARD 2017
Keswick School's own Book Award was launched on World Book Day 2017! This was the first time this had happened and the six books chosen for our short list were all very different in the hope that there would be something for everybody throughout the school, including staff! Staff and pupils were invited to respond to the books by writing reviews, making posters, book trailers, redesigned book covers, illustrations of characters etc, etc. There was a raffle for all who produced responses with prizes at the end of the year. One of the authors, Jane Brittan also visited the school to speak about her work as an author. Her book 'Bad Blood' tied for first place with 'The Wolf Wilder' by Katherine Rundell.
